چکیده

The sum of distances between all pairs of vertices W (G) in a connected graph G as a graph invariant was first introduced by Wiener [9] in 1947. He observed a correlation between boiling points of paraffins and this invariant, which has later become known as Wiener index of a graph. Today, the Wiener index is one of the most widely used descriptors in chemical graph theory. Due to its strong connection to chemistry, where molecules have a tree-like structures, a lot of research was done on acyclic graphs (see [2] for survey). In 1995 Gutman and Ye [3] considered an inverse Wiener index problem. They asked for which integers n there exist trees with Wiener index n, and posed the following conjecture:

Solutions for Two Conjectures on the Inverse Problem of the Wiener Index of Peptoids

In this paper, we give solutions for the two conjectures on the inverse problem of the Wiener index of peptoids proposed by Goldman et al. We give the first conjecture a positive proof and the second conjecture a negative answer.

Molecular graphs and the inverse Wiener index problem

In the drug design process, one wants to construct chemical compounds with certain properties. In order to establish the mathematical basis for the connections between molecular structures and physicochemical properties of chemical compounds, some so-called structure-descriptors or ”topological indices” have been put forward. Among them, the Wiener index is one of the most important. A long sta...

Some remarks on the sum of the inverse values of the normalized signless Laplacian eigenvalues of graphs

Let G=(V,E), $V={v_1,v_2,ldots,v_n}$, be a simple connected graph with $%n$ vertices, $m$ edges and a sequence of vertex degrees $d_1geqd_2geqcdotsgeq d_n>0$, $d_i=d(v_i)$. Let ${A}=(a_{ij})_{ntimes n}$ and ${%D}=mathrm{diag }(d_1,d_2,ldots , d_n)$ be the adjacency and the diagonaldegree matrix of $G$, respectively. Denote by ${mathcal{L}^+}(G)={D}^{-1/2}(D+A) {D}^{-1/2}$ the normalized signles...

Remarks on the Wiener Polarity Index of Some Graph Operations†

TheWiener polarity indexWp(G) of a graphG of order n is the number of unordered pairs of vertices u and v of G such that the distance dG(u, v) between u and v is 3. In this paper the Wiener polarity index of some graph operations are computed. As an application of our results, the Wiener polarity index of a polybuckyball fullerene and C4 nanotubes and nanotori are computed. AMS Mathematics Subj...

The Inverse Problems for Some Topological Indices in Combinatorial Chemistry

In the original paper, Goldman et al. (2000) launched the study of the inverse problems in combinatorial chemistry, which is closely related to the design of combinatorial libraries for drug discovery. Following their ideas, we investigate four other topological indices, i.e., the sigma-index, the c-index, the Z-index, and the M(1)-index, with a special emphasis on the sigma-index. Like the Wie...
